Who would have thought I could find something that would make me happier than being done with varsity work did. Through some dealings, which I would rather not go into detail about lest the parentals find me lacking an alibi, I ended up in Jo'burg for a week. Not just any week, the week of the ELLE magazine South Africa #StyleReporter blog party! This is what happened.

In their June issue ELLE published a call like no other before. They were in search of South Africa's first ever style reporter! What this means is that they were looking for a person with a good eye, writing skills, an ear to the ground and finger on the fashion trends pulse to blog on South African street style. The winner would ultimately get a 7-month contract with the magazine as well as prize money and gadget sponsored by the competition's sponsor, Blackberry.

By them time the entries closed in August they had received 296 entries! They narrowed them down to the top 18, which got cut down to the top 7. On Tuesday the 20th of November, ELLE and Blackberry hosted a party to celebrate the efforts of these young people and the spirit of South African street style and aesthetics; a party at which Trevor Stuurman was crowned South Africa's first Style Reporter. The party was held in one of Johannesburg's coolest neighbourhoods -- the Maboneng Precinct.

I'll let my shots from the night do the rest to the talking:

The Set Up there were seven themes: Gold digging, Shangaan Colour-blocking, Graffiti, Taxi rank, Market Day, Glamour and one other:

The Fashionistas:

ELLE magazine editor-in-chief Jackie Burger:

MC for the night Poppy Ntshongwana next to the Award:

The Finalists had to live-blog the event on their respective blogs on themes based on the setup:

Trevor Stuurman ELLE Style Reporter 2012:

The future of South African style, blogging and fashion is in very good hands, the top seven of ELLE Magazine South Africa #StyleReporter  are evidence of that.

The only thing that would have made the end of the night perfect for me would have been being able to go home and crawl into my Sealy bed.
