The passed few years have seen the revival of the hippy. Living gently and consuming responsibly have become important values for individuals and big corporates. Recycling, composting and growing organic veggies has gone mainstream, as has going off the grid and keeping your own hens out the back.
One such modern hippy is Lauren, a young, Sustainable Development grad based in NY who became tired of living as what she considered a hypocrite. She gave herself the challenge of living trash-free and has managed to accomplish this task by changing the way she lives quite remarkably.
Beauty products are often heavy on packaging and so she tried her hand at creating home-made moisturiser for her face and body. Her recipe is a hit and full of goodness so we thought we should share it with you, our great Sealy fans.
- coconut oil
- shea butter
- cocoa butter
- sweet almond oil
- Place a glass bowl over a pot of boiling water. This creates the effect of a double boiler providing low heat to the oils to allow them to combine.
- Mix equal parts of the ingredients (eg. one quarter cup of each) in the glass bowl and stir until well blended.
- Place the bowl in the fridge and allow to set.
- Using a hand held blender, whisk until light and fluffy. This could take a few minutes.
Could you get into making your own beauty products? Is this a hand-made gift you would love to receive? How do you save on waste at home? We would love to hear more...
