This past Sunday, the 5th of August, marked the 50th anniversary of the death of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe.
The woman born Norman Jean Mortnensen has said of her fame: Marilyn was a persona which she had to don. Consisting of equal parts makeup, wardrobe, and attitude, Marilyn took hours to prepare.
Many hollywood starlets have put in hours in the past to make the Marilyn persona come back to life:
In the last Forbes list she ranked in the top three of the highest earning deceased stars behind Michael Jackson and Elvis Presely. Most popular culture enthusiasts have even gone as far as to say that Marilyn Monroe is more famous (and culturally relevant) in her her death than while she was alive.
She wasn't always all sunshine and daises, after she was unable to carry her baby to term in '57 it was reported she took medication to sleep through the pain.
Whatever your take on the woman and her persona, you have to admit she's a classic. A legends that'll live on for 50 more years.
