My Travel Bucket List

The oak tree in Oprah's house

I have a lot of wish lists as most dreamers do. I have a career wish list, one for travel and one for my personal life/legacy. On each list I have allowed myself three to five items that may be perceived as impossible or hard to achieve. I perceive them as hard to achieve, but yet they are there because they keep the dreamer in me going. These are the three out of this world items on my travel bucket list.

1. Just like Eloise at the Plaza, I want to be a hotel girl. Not any old hotel room though, I want to stay in the Coco Chanel suit at the Ritz Paris. To me, it feels like one of those paces where comfort and luxury are verbs. You can feel them and see them in action. I think life altering and transcendent things will happen to me if I ever stay in that suit. Maybe I will realise that things are nothing more than that. That luxury is a state of mind. Or maybe it will be to me what that train ride out of London was for Rowling, a reaslisation of a dream far beyond myself. But costing over $10, 000 a night it is likely to remain just a dream. Unless of course the next UK lottery I win turns out to be a legitimate two-night stay in the Coco room.

2. I don't like stereotypes and assumptions but if you have ever assumed anything at all about me let it be that I love Oprah Winfrey. This item however has nothing to do with that magnificent Hawaiian trip she took all her employees on a few years back. It is also not about the show-stopping  Australian adventure she gave to her ultimate viewers on the last season of the Oprah Winfrey Show. It's about her home in Santa Barbara. I have seen myself sitting under one of her oak trees reading my book and sipping on cool aid. She and I would watch Beloved in the home theatre and make scones later. I'd make Madiba's favourite (samp) for her and Stedman.

3. Thanks to The Oprah Winfrey show I (and the rest of the show's viewership) got to see inside Sir Richard Branson's Necker Island. What a beauty! He wouldn't have to entertain me because he wouldn't even know I was there. I'd stick to the room I was given and explore the island until my time was up. Beautiful beaches and blue skies... Sigh.

While I dream on, a happy Jetsetting Thursday to you.
