Whilst most South Africans would probably describe Netflix's biggest competitor as DSTV’s ShowMax, Netflix Chief Executive, Reed Hastings, has declared that their addictive programming leaves them competing against sleep rather than any other entertainment alternative.
Hastings sees the eight hours per day that that their viewers should be dedicating to sleep as their greatest competitor.
“You know think about it, when you watch a show from Netflix and you get addicted to it, you stay up late at night. We’re competing with sleep, not with any other network,” he said in an interview with The Guardian.
Most of us lack the discipline required to wait a whole day or week (gasp!) before watching the next episode. Tucking into a series is a great way to escape from life’s difficulties, it but may mean that you have less time and energy left over to make your own dreams come true in the daylight hours that follow.
If you do plan on spending more time watching TV than sleeping, you might as well do it in the most comfortable bed possible: The Sealy Posturematic Adjustable bed. Whether you want to lie down flat, head up, feet up, TV watching, zero-gravity or dual massage, the adjustments are almost endless.
For series-lovers the good news is that Netflix anticipates the release of even more addictive series in the coming months. For those who love their sleep, where will your loyalty fall? With rest or entertainment?
