Not quite. The Durban July has long finished along with its fashions and probably winnings. I am too old to be seen anywhere near the Greyville racing course for the entire duration of the July month. Something good is coming to KZN, though. The Design Dialogue will be in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban in the month of August.
The event will be brought to us by Decorex South Africa and seeing as it'll be all about colour, Plascon is the fitting sponsor. The main speaker is going to be Leatrice Eiseman, a colour expert and the director of the Pantone Institute.
The first time I heard about Eiseman was through The Furnishing Touch's announcement of Tangerine tango as the colour of 2012. With any luck this workshop and the experts, which will also feature South African decor and design professionals will have me leaning open-heartedly toward tangerine.
Eiseman is "one of the world's top decision makers" because of the work she does in trend forecasting, according to Fortune Magazine. Not only will she be discussing international colour trends but she will also delve into Plascon's colour forecasts for 2013. It's a given that thought leaders and design enthusiasts will be at home but I also believe that other domestic goddesses who like to be ahead of the curve and look at pretty design will enjoy this outing.
Each talk will have a mixed line up of design professionals like eclectic designer Ruth Duke and designer/trendsetter Neville Trickett in Durban; lighting designer Heath Nash and stylist/interior decorator Tracy Lee Lynch in Cape Town as well as Edcon trend forecaster Bianca Tanchel and Stephen Falcke in Johannesburg. These are only a few of the speakers lined up for the discussion series.
